Product Review : Q-Snap Floor Frame

The Q-Snap is the premier PVC type frame. It is constructed of high impact polystyrene making it a particularly durable model. The frame includes exclusive ribbed inner surface clamping caps for securing your quilting projects. This ribbed surface strongly grips the fabric and provides a stable work environment.

The Q-Snap's quilting surface is generous. The frames provides a 28" X 39" work area and is 31.5 inches high, easily accommodating more than one quilter at a time. If a larger work area is desired, an extension kit that doubles the Q-Snap's length is sold separately. With or without the extension, this frame is a good choice for group quilting projects.

Although the frame is a good size, it is not as heavy as similar frames, some weighing twice as much. Weighing only 10.5 pounds, the Q-Snap is easily portable. It comes with its own carrying carton, so transport and storage is not at all awkward.

To increase comfort, quilters may wish to consider the Q-Snap's tilt kit. The kit elevates the frame's opposite edge, angling the work surface for easier accessibility. This kit is sold separately, however.

Pros :

This model is lightweight in comparison to similar frames. Assembly and storage is convenient as a result. This is an important consideration for quilters lacking ample space or a dedicated work room where a quilt frame could remain assembled indefinitely. This portable frame is equipped with a convenient carrying case, making it a good choice for quilting group meetings or even traveling.

The dimensions of the Q-Snap Floor quilt provide an ample work space. In fact, two or more can work on a quilt quite comfortably using this frame. In addition, the frame's height is generous enough to accommodate a wheelchair or any sized work chair.

The tilting feature is worth consideration. Although the tilt-kit is sold separately, it provides a comfortable work area for quilting without causing back and arm strain. It is light enough, also, so that adjustment is easy. Used in conjunction with a good light source, it is possible to quilt at length with the Q-Snap frame without developing excessive discomfort and fatigue. In turn, this is likely to contribute to better quilting.

Cons :

The biggest issue with this frame is the ease of use of its clamps. This can be a challenge with certain types of batting or particular hand conditions. Using this frame with thicker or fluffy batting can be difficult. The quilt securing clamps are rather tight, and snapping them in place over thick layers can be a struggle for some. In extreme cases, both the fabric and quilt seams can be distorted in the process, effecting your end result's quality.

If health issues are a concern, basic operation of the clamps may be a struggle. Quilters who favor thicker batting, those who experience issues of low muscle strength or arthritis may want to consider a trial run with this frame before purchase to determine if this is a concern.
