Design Elements This lap quilt works on a number of levels, from color to arrangement to choice of fabrics. Your color choices can vary, depending on the first few fabrics you choose. If you want an overall purple quilt, like this one, then make your fabric choices based on colors that will work with purple. Basic elements : 4 pinwheel blocks - The pinwheels use a main fabric with a lot of movement and color. The blocks were designed so that the swirls in the fabric would move in a circular direction around the block. The alternate parts of the pinwheel are a solid, slightly textured color that enhance one of the basic colors in the main fabric. The background of the pinwheel blocks is a solid color of light purple. The Moda fabrics work well because of some texture within the design.

One part of the star is another design fabric that complements the first. The last part of the star is a solid, slightly textured color that enhances one of the basic colors of the main fabric. The background of the star block is a solid color of darker purple. The Moda fabrics work well because of some texture within the design.

The stars and pinwheels have a lot of circular movement, so the border fabric is more of a geometric. It picks up the purples within the blocks, and adds some blues to the overall design. The binding is the same shade as the lighter purple in the pinwheel blocks. It also accents the border fabric. Next : Fabric and notions [Page : 1 2 3 4 5 6]
