This smaller, lightweight member of the OTT family travels well and provides some of the best lighting available. It is a good choice to bring to classes, quilting groups, or traveling. It can be used to supplement existing room lighting while hand quilting or for machine piecing, but may take up too much space for use with machine quilting. In addition to portability, the Task Light is very flexible. It can be adjusted to assume a variety of angles, from parallel to a work area to straight up, providing a wide range of illumination. The light may even be wall-mounted to save space. Features
- TrueColor technology Pros : The OTT Task Light is a high performance model. Although it only uses a 13 watt tube, it generates as much light as a 60 watt bulb. Quilters can rely upon this light for quality illumination as well as energy efficiency. Surprisingly, the light tube does not become excessively hot, although it burns so brightly. The Task Light features OTT's TrueColor technology. This lighting system most closely replicates the full spectrum white light found outdoors with a minimum amount of glare. It provides maximum comfort for intricate, detailed work and color matching, and significantly reduces eyestrain. Small stitches become more easily visible, matching thread and fabric color becomes more accurate, and fatigue is minimized. Quilters with vision issues or anyone needing improved lighting to work on projects at night will appreciate how brightly the Task Light illuminates an area. Cons : As with any lamps from OTT-Lite, the Task Light can be on the pricey side. While this is not the most expensive light from OTT, it is not priced to be an impulse item. This is a high performance light, and priced accordingly. Since the OTT line is popular, however, finding this light on sale should not be too difficult. The Task Light's power cord is not particularly generous. An extension cord may be necessary if no plugs are close to your work area. The light may need tightening should it not maintain proper positioning. Should this be an issue, tightening the slots along the light's arm with a coin usually solves the problem. Some trial and error may be involved in finding the best positioning of the Task Light in your work area. Depending upon your furniture, your eyesight and your work area, it may take some time to identify the best position and best angle for this light. Height is not adjustable, so the lamp may need to be placed on just the right piece of furniture to provide optimum illumination. Because TrueColor so closely mimics natural lighting, it may be wise to move plants away from the Task Light while it is in use. Some found the leaves on their plants began to look "burned" after prolonged exposure. Related : More Lamp & Light Reviews
