The Hinterberg Design Company began manufacturing quilting frames in 1981. The first model made available was their Homestead frame, and it has developed a loyal following since that time. It remains the most popular frame of the entire Hinterberg line. The Homestead frame's design is based upon the plans for historical quilting frames as well as the needs of today's quilters. The frame is built to last and function within the demands of a modern lifestyle. In addition to durable maple construction, the Homestead is also lightweight and portable. It disassembles easily for convenient storage without requiring the removal of your quilt from the rollers. This feature is a considerable bonus for anyone lacking permanent space for a frame of this size. Since its creation, the Homestead's design has been modified to incorporate quilters' feedback. Today's Homestead frame tilts for easier access and features three rollers. Tension upon the quilt's layers is independently controlled by each of the rollers. Each roller features two large ratchets to adjust the tension once the quilt is loaded. Further modifications are unnecessary, as tension is consistent. A sagging bottom layer or stretched fabric is not a problem on this frame. As a result, the Homestead is a convenient choice for comfortable, no-baste quilting. Assembly of the frame could not be easier. The Homestead comes with detailed, step-by-step instructions. It is not unreasonable to anticipate completed assembly within an afternoon. The Homestead comes standard with 93 inch Queen-sized rails. Extensions for King-sized quilts are available for separate purchase, as are Twin-sized rails. The extension kit is 31 inches, bringing the frame's width to 124" when in use. The smaller rails measure 59 inches. Features
- standard 93 inch wide work area Pros : Like all Hinterberg frames, the Homestead is backed by a full five year warranty. The manufacturer will replace any part that fails as a result of defective materials or workmanship without charge. The warranty becomes effective at the time of purchase. The length of this warranty is testament to the frame's quality and the manufacturer's faith in this product. The Homestead frame is fully adjustable. A variety of heights and a wide range of tilt angles are possible. Whether you prefer to work from a seated or standing position, setting up the most comfortable work area is not difficult. Cons : The Homestead frame comes with Queen sized rollers only. Larger or smaller projects necessitate the additional purchase of extensions or rollers. Quilters needing a frame that supports projects in a variety of sizes should consider the additional expense when evaluating the Homestead. Related : More Frame Reviews
