The Dazor Circline Magnifier light is a convenient alternative to crafting lights with magnifier add-ons. Because the magnifier and light source are a single unit, the Circline Magnifier's design simplifies finding optimum positioning. Less time may be spent on adjusting the light and magnification, leaving more time to concentrate on quilting. This design features a powerful magnifier surrounded by a circular light source housed in a durable, all-metal head. The lamp's shape provides even lighting without shadows. The absence of competing shadows and uniform illumination of a work area enhances color contrast, while de-emphasizing uneven surfaces. This improves the visibility of even the tiniest quilting stitches, embroidery and appliqué work. The Circline Magnifier is available in a range of diopters; 3 (+75% magnification) 5 (+125% magnification) and 11 (+275% magnification). Diopter describes a lens' curvature. The greater the diopter value, the thicker the lens and more pronounced its curvature. The greater a lens' curvature, the larger objects appear under it, because light rays are redirected to fill a greater amount of the retina. Regardless of the diopter, the Circline Magnifier features a lens 5 inches in diameter. Unlike more economical lamps on the market, this lens is made of crown-optical glass, rather than acrylic. All models of the Circline Magnifier Light include "floating-arms". These arms provide convenient positioning of the lens/light source with just the slightest touch. The floating-arm provides a 42" reach. Features
- 22-watt circline fluorescent bulb Pros : The Circline Magnifier design is extremely convenient. Since the lighting and magnification are built into a single unit, positioning the lamp for optimum visibility and clarity is an easy task. Quilters may experience some glare or reflection using lamps with separate lighting elements and magnifiers unless both are positioned properly. This is not a problem with the Circline Magnifier. Cons : This is a high-end task light. The quality of glass used in the magnifier, as well as the optical technology behind it make the Circline Light a costly purchase. Full spectrum bulbs are not standard with this model. They are available with some Circline Magnifiers, however. Full spectrum bulbs generate the truest white light, most closely mimicking natural exterior lighting. Full spectrum light is the most comfortable on the eyes, eliminating strain and improving clarity of vision. Those with vision issues should confirm the model they select includes a full spectrum bulb. Other items are also not standard with the Circline Magnifier light. The floor stand, for one, is sold separately. The stand is available with either a pedestal (30 lbs., 38,5" high) or castor base (30 lbs., 40.5" high). Also sold separately are a polycarbonate plastic shield to cover the circline fluorescent tube, and "Add A Lens", a feature that provides 11 diopter viewing when used in conjunction with the standard 3 diopter model. These additional features compound the cost of the Circline Magnifier Light, should a fully loaded model be desired. Related : More Lamp & Light Reviews
