Common household lighting emits a mixture of red and yellow light. While fine for most purposes, the resulting glare from such lights is not conducive for detailed quilting work. The Daylight Armchair Magnifying Lamp, however, simulates natural daylight to reduce eye strain and glare. This improves the visibility of small stitches and simplifies matching colors. Features : This floor-standing lamp has a weighted, wheel-mounted base for improved stability, mobility and storage. Weighing 24 lbs, this model is also fairly sturdy in its construction. For further convenience, the lamp's height is adjustable from 32"-72". It is equipped with a standard 110-volt plug-in, featuring a foot switch and long cord. The Daylight Armchair Magnifying Lamp includes flexible, removable arms upon which a rimless magnifier and chart holder are attached. The acrylic magnifying lens is 5 inches in diameter, providing 1.75X magnification. It mounts upon a 22 inch flexible arm. The chart holder is mounted on a 10 inch flexible arm. The arms' gooseneck design provides convenient movement and accurate positioning. Both arms may easily be removed when not in use. An 11-watt, low energy and heat, daylight simulation bulb is included with the Daylight Armchair Magnifying Lamp. The bulb is powerful, energy efficient and very effective in illuminating colors, detail and print. Replacement bulbs are sold separately. The lamp is available in both matte black or brass to coordinate with any room's décor. Pros : The Daylight Magnifying Lamp's flexible design is very convenient for quilters. Since the height is easily adjusted, this lamp accommodates any work location without sacrificing effectiveness. The flexible arms make positioning printed matter and the magnifier fairly easy. The arms also clear up your work area, allowing clutter-free quilting. The Daylight Magnifying Lamp is designed to be more than a utility lighting fixture. Since the arms are removable, this lamp fits any room's décor unobtrusively. With 1.75X magnification, the acrylic lens is quite helpful in improving the visibility of small stitches or very detailed work. In combination with the natural light simulating bulb, this provides a very comfortable working environment and simplifies accurate color matching. The foot switch is very convenient as well. Quilters can assemble supplies, settle in comfortably to work and switch on the lamp without disrupting their work space. Cons : Although it is not readily apparent in photographs of the Daylight Magnifying Lamp, the power cord hangs from the upper portion of the lamp. Although this does not interfere with it's function, this design may not be the most aesthetically pleasing for some. Also, the lampshade supplied with the lamp is plastic. While this may not be an issue should the lamp reside in an out-of-the-way area, the lampshade may not coordinate so easily with a more formal room. Quilters with eyesight issues may run into some difficulty coordinating the magnifier's position with the light source. Some have noted difficulty avoiding reflection between the two. This can be further exacerbated by thicker eyeglass lenses. Those for whom this is an issue may find better results from lamps featuring the magnifying lens and light source in one.
